Style in Your 60s
Sixty is the new 60! If you’re in your 60s, you might be thinking that you have to revert back to the style of your younger years. What you wore in your 20s and 30s is most likely not what you should be wearing 30 to 40 years later. Everyone is always trying to look younger and younger, but really, you should be aiming to look great. There’s nothing wrong with aging. In fact, just like wine, you’re getting better with age, and it’s time for you to show it! Instead of looking back on past years, here’s how you can find style in your 60s.
There are a few fashion tips you should consider in your 60s. First, there’s one piece of clothing that’s going to make you look classy, sharp, and polished, and that’s a blazer. Blazers are great for dressing up a casual outfit and they go with everything. While you can wear them with jeans or trousers, you can easily pair them with a dress or skirt as well. Solid colors always work, but you can always achieve greater style with plaid or tartan print blazers. Now, if you’re going to pair your blazers with jeans, you should first clear your closet of any leftover skinny jeans that might’ve been lingering in your 50s. If you’re going to wear a pair of denim, try a pair of slim fit or boot cut.
Lastly, when it comes to fashion, you might still love your pumps and stilettos, but one thing you should be mindful of in your 60s is wearing more comfortable shoes. Let’s just say that 4 or 5 inch heels could actually age you more than you realize. While we’re certainly not telling you to give up heels in general, you should definitely minimize their height and start mixing them in with shorter, flatter alternatives.
Now that you’ve conquered style and fashion in your 60s, let’s tackle beauty next. Within the last few years, you might’ve noticed a change in your hair. Is it thinning? Are you noticing that your hair doesn’t grow as fast or as much as it used to? Before your panic, you should know that 80% of women between ages 40 and 60 experience hair loss. Before you let this affect your confidence, it doesn’t have too! You can still have full, luscious hair and achieve it by using the GRO Hair Serum to help protect and strengthen your roots. And while hair loss can be a problem for women in their 60s, you might be happy to know that the times call for even shorter haircuts. While you could choose lobs (long bobs) and bobs, pixie cuts are a great way to look sexy and refined. Just think of Jamie Lee Curtis circa 2008 and on or Robin Wright in her award-winning role as Claire Underwood in Netflix’s House of Cards.
Once you’ve got your locks squared away, you can move on to nails and makeup. Similar to your 40s and 50s, you should consider transitioning to shorter nails in your 60s. Instead, wear a more natural length with more neutral colors. While you can still wear your favorite solid colors, nude shades can help you achieve a distinguished looks if that what you’re going for.
Finally, signs of aging tend to appear on the face. You might have fine lines and wrinkles. You might suffer from dry skin. It’s okay. It happens! As these signs become more prominent, you’ll be tempted to cover them up with makeup. Instead, try the exact opposite. Lighten up on the amount of foundation and concealer you use on your skin. These two products and the addition of powder can easily cause skin to look older than it is. While using fewer complexion products is essential, you want to pair this with cream-based makeup. Matte products can make the skin appear dryer and can easily settle into our lines. Alternatively, creamier products can help your skin look more youthful and hydrated.
Who’s to say that your 60s aren’t your best years yet? Many people seem to think the key is being young, but the key is youth! Being in your 60s doesn’t mean you’re old or that you have to look the part. Just look at Helen Mirren, Meryl Streep, and Tina Turner, fabulous women who are even older and in their 70s. Your 60s are on track to be great, and now with these style tips, they’re looking even better.
