Style in Your 50s

Welcome to your 50s! Many women seem to think that there isn’t much to enjoy about being in their 50s. You might not be in your 20s and 30s, but there are still ways to embrace the extra years of life. Some women might be worried about menopause or signs of aging, but there’s one thing you should be ready to revel in – style. Who’s to say you can’t look good and feel good in your 50s? Not us! In your 40s, you might’ve stopped wearing micro-length anything, ripped jeans, and loud jewelry. Now, in your 50s, your style can be just as sexy with a few more refined tweaks and changes. Fifty doesn’t have to be the new 40, 30, or 20. Fifty is the new 50, and here’s how you can bring just as much style to these fabulous years.

Let’s start with fashion. Everyone needs a great pair of jeans, and while you might be gravitating towards light denim, now’s the time to start transitioning to darker colors. Trade in all your acid or light wash jeans for medium blues and dark wash options. Feel free to play with colors because trust and believe, the right pair of red jeans can be chic and sexy. And while you’re debating on which jeans to purchase, pass over the skinny jeans. While you might’ve loved them in the past, your 50s fashion should be centered on slim fit and even boot cut denim.

Now, you’re only in your 50s. This doesn’t mean you can’t be sexy. You might want to show off a little skin, and you still can! When picking the right skirt length, keep it just above the knee and below. This is definitely enough skin exposure! And if you still feel the need to show off a little more skin, add a few off-the-shoulder and cold-shoulder tops to your closet.

Lastly, you might want to stand out with stacked jewelry, but this can sometimes appear gaudy. Try to keep your jewelry minimal with three pieces at most. You can never go wrong with earrings, a necklace, and a watch or bracelet.

Your fashion sense is now at its peak, but if you want your style to be completely well-rounded, you’ll need to make a few changes to your beauty regimen as well. First, start off with hair. Similar to your 40s, you should consider going shorter. Extremely long hair can make you appear older, so chop off a few inches at your next hair appointment. While you can go for longer locks like Julia Roberts, feel free to go for a classic bob like Jodie Foster. And as your hair gets shorter, you should consider the same for your nails.

We’re saying goodbye to long, dramatic nails. While you can certainly still indulge in more unique shapes like oval and coffin, it’s time to bench more dramatic styles like the stiletto. In your 50s, your nails should become a bit simpler. Most shades on the color wheel are still fair use, but you might want to think twice before you indulge in hot pinks and bright neon shades.

Finally, one of the most important aspects that go into our looks and style is makeup. We use it to hide our imperfections and enhance the parts we like. You might try to hide fine lines and wrinkles beneath foundation and concealer, but they can often seep into these lines and make them look worse. Instead, use less foundation and concealer, and opt for a more natural look. Chances are you want to spend less time doing your makeup, so take a few steps to shorten the process. Instead of putting on a brow product daily, you might prefer a brow volumizing serum that helps you grow a better, fuller brow. You might also choose to shop for powder foundations that can cut your complexion routine in half.

Style in your 50s is centered on a few things. One, style should get easier, not harder. You shouldn’t spend hours trying to figure out the best look for you. Two, you shouldn’t aim to look young for your age. You should aim to look great for your age. With this mix of fashion and beauty tips, your 50s just got better.
